   Gallery – Donors

Here are some pictures of some of the donors of fibre used in Lesley Sophia's yarn!

The sheep to the left of the figure, and the large sheep to the right are a breed called Jacob's. These are unusual in that they normally have four horns. They are usually brown and white, but can sometimes appear to be all brown, however, the fleece will display a variation in shade once spun. (See the picture on the 'Gallery -- Sweaters' page.)

The sheep which is partially obscured by the figure is a Manx Loghtan, and there is a small Cheviot lamb on the far right of the picture.

These five ladies are Shetlands. Notice the wide variation in fleece colour which make them Lesley Sophia's favourite choice for hand spun yarn.

Below we have a picture of around 150 alpacas. Alpaca fleece can be obtained in various natural colours, including a deep Titian red, chocolate brown, a coffee colour, black, steel grey, and white. Alpaca fleece is very soft and warm.

Maremma Sheepdog - Rastus

Pictured below is Erin, an Irish Water Spaniel, owned by Debbie Robinson of Emsworth, Hampshire.
Irish Water Spaniel is a very fine fibre, and well suited to spinning. It makes a soft, warm lustrous yarn.
Lesley would like to thank Debbie for permission to use Erin's photograph on the Sheep2Sweater web site.

And, finally, this is Rastus - a Maremma sheepdog, owned by Mr. & Mrs Wardle of Long Marton in Cumbria.
Maremmas originate in in central Italy - in the High Appennine of the Abruzzi region and on the plains of Maremma. Their undercoat is beautifully soft, and is ideal for spinning.
Mrs. Wardle contacted Lesley about having Rastus's combings spun, after reading a short article about her in the Febraury 2003 edition of Your Dog magazine.
She went on to send nearly 2 kilograms of fibre for spinning!

More information about Maremmas can be obtained from The Maremma Sheepdog Club of Great Britain (whose secretary is Mrs J Downes, and can be contacted on 01948 840220), or from The Northern Maremma Association (whose secretary is Ms. Braud, and can be contacted via The Kennel Club ).

Lesley would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Wardle for permission to use Rastus's photograph on her web site.
